Sustainable Redevelopment of The Great Wood Camp

The Great Wood Camp is located in the Quantock Hills ANOB 10miles west of Bridgewater. The Camp comprises a 10acre plot surrounded by forestry land. There is a public access road running along the northwest side of the site.

The works comprised of:

  • Demolition of the existing mess hut;
  • Erection of a replacement mess hut, with associated drainage and external works;
  • The masonry substructure construction with precast concrete suspended floor system.
  • The superstructure was Kingspan SIP panel. construction. Part of the superstructure included a primary timber frame, supplied and erected by a timber framing specialist manufacturer.

 

This venture utilised a combination of Passivhaus approaches and responsible sourcing. The addition of airtightness membranes and jointing tape, supports a reduction in energy bills and increased efficiency. Further features such as highly specified composite windows also contribute to lessening the overall running costs.

The amenities include; a vast dining area, a tuck shop, a fully equip catering facility, offices, meeting rooms, cleaning stores, changing areas, WC’s, cloakroom and a contemplation snug room, complete with a log burner.
