1946: The Founding Years
Following the end of World War II, the Harris brothers—George, Fred, and Ern—joined forces, combining their unique skills to establish a family building service. From humble beginnings, the company quickly earned a reputation as a trusted local builder, known for quality craftsmanship and strong community ties.
1980s: Becoming a Local Housing Developer
By the late 1980s, Harris Bros & Collard had become a prominent local housing developer, working on private ventures and council housing projects. Many housing estates in Bridgwater and surrounding villages were built by our skilled teams during this era.
1990s: Adapting to Change
The recession brought challenges, with housing prices and demand significantly impacted. To navigate these difficulties, the company transitioned into contracting. This strategic pivot led to the delivery of several iconic projects, including:

+ The Brewhouse Theatre, Taunton
+ The regeneration of Angel Crescent, Bridgwater
+ The re-siting of the Admiral Blake Statue, Bridgwater
+ St. Francis Church construction
+ Bridgwater Catholic Church construction
Present Day: Four Generations Strong
Now in its fourth generation of family leadership, Harris Bros and Collard remains committed to the values instilled by its founders. As a family-run business, we continue to deliver outstanding projects across construction, property development, and specialist services. With a deep connection to our community and an eye on the future, we proudly uphold our legacy of delivering excellence in everything we do.
